FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Miami, FL (August 16, 2010) – Eco friendly handbag company Ecoist (www.ecoist.com) has partnered with leading carbon offset provider TerraPass to continue its commitment to making a positive impact on the planet. Through this partnership, Ecoist plans to offset 32,000 pounds of carbon by the end of 2011, the equivalent of 33,000 driving miles (73,000 flight miles). The eco fashion company will purchase the carbon offsets with no additional charge to its customers.
Ecoist’s decision to offset carbon emissions is an extension of its commitment to being green. Since 2004, Ecoist has prevented more than 15 million candy wrappers and other waste bound materials from ending up in landfills and has planted more than 100,000 trees as part of its practice to plant a tree for every product sold. Now, through its partnership with TerraPass, Ecoist is balancing its carbon footprint by sponsoring a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that is directly proportional to the emissions created by shipping its products.
“At Ecoist, we strive to be environmentally sensitive in all areas of our business and are very much aware of the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our shipping practices. But since we can’t eliminate shipping from our business, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to balance our carbon footprint by funding reductions in greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere through TerraPass,” says Jonathan Marcoschamer, co-founder of Ecoist.
TerraPass is the leading consumer retailer of voluntary carbon offsets and has reduced over 1.8 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the leading contributor to global warming. Every TerraPass offset purchase is verified against industry leading standards by an independent third party. In 2010, TerraPass was named Best Carbon Offset Provider and received the prestigious Climate Action Champion Award by Climate Action Reserve.
TerraPass Chief Executive Officer, Erin Craig, applauds Ecoist for its environmental leadership. “By taking responsibility for understanding and mitigating the greenhouse gas emissions that necessarily result from product shipments, Ecoist is a great example of environmental responsibility in the largest sense.”
Founded in 2004, Ecoist develops fashion accessories for the eco-minded individual. The company’s objective is to merge design with social and environmental consciousness to provide stylish, functional, and durable products that people will love to own. Ecoist is known for its line of recycled handbags made from recycled candy wrappers, food packages, and soda labels and its growing list of partners such as Coca-Cola, Mars, Frito-Lay, Disney, AVEDA, and
